本人畢業於國立清華大學中國文學系。博士論文《晚清「戰爭敘事」研究──譯介、圖像、新小說》主要著眼於晚清戰爭翻譯小說、原創小說和戰爭圖像敘事。研究內容涉及翻譯流變、文學脈動、科學幻想、性別越界、精神建構和身體紀律等現代性議題。未來，我將延續此研究脈絡和學術興趣，進一步探討晚清民初翻譯小說與文化跨界的問題。

I graduated from the Department of Chinese Literature of National Tsing Hua University. My PhD dissertation "Approach to Late Qing"War Narratives" : Translation, Imagination, and the New Fiction" discussed war novels and war images in the late Qing Dynasty.

The dissertation deals with a large number of translated novels, literary trends, scientific fantasies, gender transgressions, spiritual constructions, and bodily disciplines. I will continue to study translated fictions and cultural transgressions in the late Qing in the future.

Su-Yon Lee is an author, editor, and critic. He received his Ph.D. (2021) in Taiwan Literature from National Taiwan University. Lee was the 2017-2018 Hou Family Fellow at the Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies at Harvard University. His publications of books include You Gradually Approach to Me (Chiuko, 2006) and Für Elise (Chiuko, 2013). He is the chief editor of 百年降生：1900-2000臺灣文學故事 100 Years of Taiwan Literature: 1900-2000 (Linking Publishing, 2018). Currently, his research topics focus on Taiwan indigenous writing, Modernism, and inter-art studies.

I received Ph.D. in Chinese literature from National Tsing Hua University. My research focuses on modern drama. My dissertation discusses the development of Peking Opera in Beijing and Shanghai during the Anti-Japanese War. Now I am working on the performance activities of Peking Opera actors in the late Qing Dynasty.

我的學術旨趣聚焦在明清詩文、明遺民、園林文化與書寫等中國古典文學的議題。博士階段以來我的研究持續探討明清之際詩文的自我形象建構。目前研究計畫專注於阮大鋮詩歌的自我形象建構。

I received PhD in Chinese literature from National Taiwan University in November 2021. My research interests centre around poetry and prose from the Ming to Qing dynasty, the Ming loyalist, and garden culture and writing. Since my PhD research, I have continued to explore the self-image construction of the poetry and prose in the Ming-Qing transition. My current project studies the self-image construction of Ruan Dacheng’s poems.

Hsin-Chih Perng received his M.A. in Jewish civilization and Ph.D. in Hebrew language from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. His research focuses mainly on medieval Aramaic texts and manuscripts, analyzing the linguistic features of various dialects, and also deals with the interpretation of diverse Jewish texts as well as medieval Jewish history and culture in general.

Yi-jo Angel Hsieh received her PhD in Comparative Literature from National Taiwan University. Her research focuses on twentieth-century American literature, the history and theory of photography, and media studies. Her dissertation, “The Impoverished Picture: Optical Mediation and American Modernist Writing,” investigates American modernist writers’ engagement with the embodied and material aspects of vision in the accounts of photography. She is currently working on an article that develops an atmospheric reading of Faulkner.

Hung Tak Wai is a Research Fellow of the Research Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences of National Taiwan University, specializing on history of globalization, religion, and politics in East Asia. He is a Hong Kong born historian and has a particular interest in minorities in historical and contemporary Asia. His research focused on the transformation of culture in East Asia since the early era of globalization, faith and identity of minorities in the region, including but not limited to Muslims and Christians and their interaction with the majority of the society. By the study of a variety of cases in Asia since 16th century, he wishes to propose a multi-origin history of religion and political tolerance. His doctoral dissertation examines several significant contemporary theories of reasons in order to address the question, “Why should I be moral?” Recently he is primarily working on the following topics: the sources of normativity of reasons, agency, and the philosophical thinking about meaning in life.

I am a passionate and dedicated anthropological research fellow with multiple sites of fieldwork research experience. My interest region is Latin America, and most research is based in Mexico. Interesting in the labor theory in the modern world, but mainly focuses on the export-oriented factory. I mainly focus on how the forces such as transnational enterprise, state, local labor market, and workers' agencies shape the factory regime and labor control in maquiladoras.

I am a historical archaeologist based in Taiwan. I had  studied archaeology in National Tsing Hua University, Oxford University and Boston University. My researches focus on heritage sites in the mountain regions, including the Indigenous Bunun’s former settlements abandoned in the mid-1930 in the Lakulaku River Basin and the Japanese police outposts used between 1921-1944 in the Pattonguan Region.

Wooi Han, Lee received his Ph.D in Sociology from Macquarie University. His dissertation explores the complex life stories of a group of rural migrant Muslim women from East Java who migrated to the city of Surabaya following Indonesia’s state-led modern development. More specifically, the dissertation delves into the stories of their entangled migration process, the motives behind their choice to enter the sex industry, the way they negotiate their stigmatized identity of “Muslim sex worker” and cope with issues of exploitation in sex work.

Yu-he Hsiao received Ph.D. in political science from National Taiwan University in November 2018. His thesis is on the conception of biopolitics in contemporary thought. His current research focuses on the theoretical reflections of collective political phenomenon, specifically the strategy of left populism in the writings of radical democracy and the discourses of revolution in contemporary thoughts. My thesis analyzes the logical structure and thought-context in Japanese New Left thinker Tanigawa Gan's  texts by anti-form approach concatenated by “sound.” My current research focuses on the interaction between Avant-Garde artistic practices and critical political thoughts, specifically the action of Anarchism and violent revolution.

Ubaldo Iaccarino earned his doctorate in History from Pompeu Fabra University (Barcelona, Spain) after graduating in Asian Studies at "L'Orientale" University of Napoli (Italy). His field of expertise is Early Modern East Asian and Southeast Asian Maritime History, with a focus on the History of the Philippines. His research interests lie primarily in the history of the Spanish presence in Asia (trade, diplomacy, Catholic missions) and the Sino-Japanese trade networks in Mainland and Island Southeast Asia (16th-17th centuries).

我的研究關懷是19-20世紀日本的崛起及其與周邊國家的互動關係。博士論文探討南滿鐵道警備問題與中日交涉問題。目前則關注日本官方對滿洲馬賊的認識與策略，考察馬賊於日本的滿洲治理及擴張中扮演之角色。

Heng-Fen Lin research interests lie in the rise of modern Japan and its interaction with neighboring countries (19th-20th centuries). Her thesis discussed the Dispute and the Negotiation between China and Japan concerning the policing of the South Manchuria Railway, 1906-1931. Her current research focuses on the relationship between the Japanese Government and Manchurian bandits, specifically Japanese’s perception and response, to examine the role of bandits in the Japanese governance and expansion of Manchuria.

Yen-Hsiu Chen received her Ph.D. in History and Civilizations from the University of Paris, France. She holds an M.A. degree in Cultural Studies and a B.A. degree in English from National Chiao Tung University, Taiwan. She was a full-time lecturer at English Language Center, Vanung University and an English/French to Chinese freelance translator. She was awarded a scholarship by the Ministry of Education, Taiwan to pursue her doctoral degree in France. Her doctoral dissertation entitled “From obscurity to resistance: bisexual identity and socio-cultural mutations (Paris, Taipei, from the 1970s to the present day)” explores the emergence, representation and evolution of bisexual identities in France and Taiwan from a historical point of view.

My research interests center around music, identity formation and issues of sustainability in relation to modernization, with the geographical foci on Taiwan and China. Since my PhD research, I have continued to explore how music mediates the emergence of Hakka new ethnicities. My current project studies how Hakka children’s songs intersect with place-making in Taiwan.

I was awarded my PhD at SOAS, University of London, working on ceramic tomb figurines in the Chang’an area from the 4th to the 7th century to see what they reveal of regional interactions in medieval northern China. My current research focuses on the transmission of funerary arts between the Tang Empire and its neighbouring polities. I am interested in these from an art history perspective but also in the wider role these arts played in diplomacy and relations between polities at the time.

Tsung-Hsin ‘Joda’ Lee, Ph.D, is interested in global network and circulation of dance from perspectives of the marginalized. His doctoral dissertation examines American modern dance companies’ State-sponsored tours to Asia from the 1950s to 1970s from Taiwanese perspectives. His current research explores cultural exchanges in artistic collaborations between Taiwanese and Thai choreographers and dancers to examine Asian modernity and connections for the marginalized.

Fan, Xiang-Jun holds a Ph.D. in Arts at the Dance Institute of Taipei Ｎational University of the Arts. She works as a practitioner, researcher and educator in the field of contemporary dance in Taiwan. The core of her research is about the dance body as the driver for generating knowledge, thereby Xiang-Jun opens up a dialogue with other fields. With these concerns in mind, she continues working on dance studies as a distinct field for generating embodied knowledge. Her Ph.D. thesis To Touch the Limit In-Between: Contact Improvisation, Aesthetics of Touch and Taiwan Contemporary Dance was awarded a Ph.D. fellowship by the Ministry of Science and Technology in the humanities and social sciences in the year 2020. Xiang-Jun lived briefly in Berlin, Germany, where she studied and practiced dance dramaturgy at the “Tanzbüro '' and the dance company in National Theatre Linz in Austria.

My research interests are labor markets and family. I’m also interested in investigating how gender roles shape people’s work and family life and how they affect people’s choices resulting from social inequalities. These issues are the primary concerns in my dissertation, where I develop the concept of employment status labor markets. My dissertation examined the effects of work experiences, gender, and family roles on workers’ job transition tendencies and wage differences. This study revealed the extent to which Taiwan’s labor markets of employment status are segmented and gendered. I am currently working on the manuscripts of job mobilities in different employment statuses and effects of intergeneration exchanges on couples’ division of household labor.

Yu-he Hsiao received Ph.D. in political science from National Taiwan University in November 2018. His thesis is on the conception of biopolitics in contemporary thought. His current research focuses on the theoretical reflections of collective political phenomenon, specifically the strategy of left populism in the writings of radical democracy and the discourses of revolution in contemporary thoughts. He is also starting a new book project on political theory of violence.

I received the Ph.D. degree in Economics from the National Chengchi University, Taipei, Taiwan, in 2019. My current research interests include time series analysis, empirical finance, and applied macroeconomics. Specifically, I have worked extensively in the areas of the informal sector economy and financial volatility modelling and forecasting. I also use some machine learning techniques (e.g., M-SVR) to enhance volatility forecasting. 我畢業於臺大城鄉所，博士論文處理戰後「臺灣地下水觀測網」的建立過程以及其中的治理考量、社會脈絡和科技議題。我把地下水觀測系統視為一種在特定戰後發展脈絡下打造的基礎設施，並主張一般認為肇因於超抽地下水的地層下陷災害，很大程度上與國家缺乏維持觀測系統這種知識基礎設施的穩定運作有關。進而，我主張治理自然的能力不只在於國家以何種方式看見自然、更在於國家以何種方式「做」出──在我的案例中，即為進行監測──自然。本論文很榮幸於2021年獲得臺灣科技與社會研究學會、臺灣社會學會、臺灣社會研究學會與國立臺灣圖書館等機構的論文獎肯定。

My research interests address the relationship between environmental data and governance, the materiality of agriculture, and water resource development in post-war East Asia. My current writing focuses on the transformation of hydrogeology, geological survey method, and the underground world’s ontology in the 1980s-1990s Taiwan. I am also working on the groundwater development in the Taiwanese countryside and the construction of vegetable cultivation landscape under the ‘Social and Cultural Survey of Rural Taiwan’ (SCSRT). Additionally, I am collaborating with Prof. Po-Yi Hung, Department of Geography, NTU, on the politics of fishing quota distribution. I have published several works in journals such as Singapore Journal of Tropical Geography, Journal of Geographical Science, and Journal of Archaeology and Anthropology.

I received my Ph.D. degree from the Institute of Building and Planning at National Taiwan University. My dissertation deals with the construction of the groundwater monitoring network (GMN) in Taiwan and its governance consideration, social context, and scientific and technological issue. Taking GMN as infrastructure and putting it under the post-war Taiwan history, I argue that the so-called ‘land-subsidence,’ which people believe caused by over-pumping groundwater, was the outcome of insufficient state ability to keep the knowledge infrastructure working. Further, I maintain that the ability to govern nature is not only building on how the state ‘see,’ but ‘do’ – that is, practicing monitoring – the environment. The dissertation is the prizewinner of several associations’ 2021 Ph.D. thesis prize, including Taiwan STS Association, Taiwan Sociology Association, Association for Taiwan Social Studies, and National Taiwan Library.

Heng-Fen Lin research interests lie in the rise of modern Japan and its interaction with neighboring countries (19th-20th centuries). Her thesis discussed the Dispute and the Negotiation between China and Japan concerning the policing of the South Manchuria Railway, 1906-1931. Her current research focuses on the relationship between the Japanese Government and Manchurian bandits, specifically Japanese’s perception and response, to examine the role of bandits in the Japanese governance and expansion of Manchuria.

Yen-Hsiu Chen received her Ph.D. in History and Civilizations from the University of Paris, France. She holds an M.A. degree in Cultural Studies and a B.A. degree in English from National Chiao Tung University, Taiwan. She was a full-time lecturer at English Language Center, Vanung University and an English/French to Chinese freelance translator. She was awarded a scholarship by the Ministry of Education, Taiwan to pursue her doctoral degree in France. Her doctoral dissertation entitled “From obscurity to resistance: bisexual identity and socio-cultural mutations (Paris, Taipei, from the 1970s to the present day)” explores the emergence, representation and evolution of bisexual identities in France and Taiwan from a historical point of view.

I was awarded my PhD at SOAS, University of London, working on ceramic tomb figurines in the Chang’an area from the 4th to the 7th century to see what they reveal of regional interactions in medieval northern China. My current research focuses on the transmission of funerary arts between the Tang Empire and its neighbouring polities. I am interested in these from an art history perspective but also in the wider role these arts played in diplomacy and relations between polities at the time.

Tsung-Hsin ‘Joda’ Lee, Ph.D, is interested in global network and circulation of dance from perspectives of the marginalized. His doctoral dissertation examines American modern dance companies’ State-sponsored tours to Asia from the 1950s to 1970s from Taiwanese perspectives. His current research explores cultural exchanges in artistic collaborations between Taiwanese and Thai choreographers and dancers to examine Asian modernity and connections for the marginalized.

我於2019年取得國立政治大學經濟學博士學位。我的研究興趣是時間序列分析、財務實證以及總體實證。具體來說，我在非正規部門經濟與金融波動率建模及預測等領域進行了廣泛的研究。近期，我也運用機器學習演算法（例如：M-SVR）來強化價格波動率的預測績效。我已有2篇TSSCI論文發表在《經濟論文》與《經濟研究》，博士論文榮獲2019臺灣銀行經濟金融論文獎。

I received the Ph.D. degree in Economics from the National Chengchi University, Taipei, Taiwan, in 2019. My current research interests include time series analysis, empirical finance, and applied macroeconomics. Specifically, I have worked extensively in the areas of the informal sector economy and financial volatility modelling and forecasting. I also use some machine learning techniques (e.g., M-SVR) to enhance volatility forecasting. My publication record includes Academia Economic Papers (TSSCI, 2020) and Taipei Economic Inquiry (TSSCI, 2019). I am deeply honored to receive the Economic and Financial Paper Award from the Bank of Taiwan in 2019.

My work is in the interdisciplinary area between political science and law, 

focusing on the politics of legal actors and institutions in the various power settings.

Yu-he Hsiao received Ph.D. in political science from National Taiwan University in November 2018. His thesis is on the conception of biopolitics in contemporary thought. His current research focuses on the theoretical reflections of collective political phenomenon, specifically the strategy of left populism in the writings of radical democracy and the discourses of revolution in contemporary thoughts. He is also starting a new book project on political theory of violence.

Her thesis discusses the globalization of French gastronomy from a qualitative study Taiwanese students who came to France to learn the French cuisine. 

Now she is now moving to a new research project in which she will investigate craftsmen in tea, coffee and chocolate industries in Taiwan in which now the boundary of farmers and craftsmen is getting blurred in these industries.

I consider myself to be a human geographer interested in disclosing multiple ties between sexualities and different scales of geography, including physical spaces, cities, nations, regions, and the globe as well as human's physical movements among them. I currently work on a project examining the interrelations between the sex industry and the neighborhood where it locates, aiming to provide a new perspective on the debate of sex zones policy.

Biography:

Huei-Ling Lai received her PhD from the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS) in the Netherlands in 2021. She works and publishes on place-making politics and grassroots innovations in the energy and agricultural sectors in Taiwan. She also reports on environmental and energy issues as an independent journalist since 2009.
